Kenji Yokota earned his MSc in 1996 from Tokyo University of Agriculture (TUA) and his PhD in 2000 from Tohoku University. He subsequently remained at Tohoku University for a year as a postdoctoral fellow by JSPS. In 2001, he was appointed assistant professor at TUA. In 2012-2013, he was a visiting scholar at the Steven Lindow lab at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2019, he was appointed full professor at TUA. His research interest is focused on elucidating the behavior of bio-active compounds in plant-microbe interactions.

A number of microbes have been identified that demonstrate the capacity to regulate plant diseases and pests, as well as to promote plant growth. The session will offer recent topics related to beneficial microbes that contribute to sustainable agriculture.
