Research interest of Dr. Nikola Unković is fungal deterioration of cultural heritage objects, and development of bioformulations applicable in conservation of works of art. He has published a total of 94 bibliographic records, of which 46 are papers in scientific journals. The quality of scientific papers is reflected in 1111 citations and the Hirsch index of 18. He was the principal investigator on the project “Promising natural alternatives for the cultural heritage safeguard: a force of nature” (PROTECTA #6066210) from the Program for Excellent Projects of Young Researchers (PROMIS) of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia and the bilateral project “Novel biocides for cultural heritage of Southeast Europe – biocontrol and biomimetic systems for preservation of old masterpieces”. He collaborated with institutions for protection of cultural heritage in Serbia which resulted in more than 30 expert reports regarding evaluation of fungal infestations of works of art and safeguarding procedures.
