Biography

Dr. Nikita Zrelovs is an early-career Latvian molecular biologist with a PhD in Life Sciences (Biology) from the University of Latvia. He is an elected researcher at the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, a visiting researcher at Riga Stradins University, and a senior expert at the University of Latvia. His work integrates genomics, microbiology, and computational biology in both research and teaching. His main research interests focus on the diversity, evolution, and functional genomics of unusual bacteriophages and their bacterial hosts, with particular emphasis on phage–host interactions. In addition, he has contributed to studies on bacterial pathogens and different eukaryotic virus genomics. His recent research combines wet-lab molecular biology and dry-lab bioinformatics approaches to advance understanding of viral ecology and the potential applications of bacteriophages in biotechnology and medicine.
