Jianwei Chen, Associate Professor, Deputy Director of Digital Earth Research Institute, BGI Research, Associate Director of RCOcean Research Centre, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research focuses on explore marine microbial diversity, adaptive evolution, and biogeographical patterns through high-throughput sequencing technologies, metagenomics, and bioinformatics; and bioprospecting from marine and extreme large-scale microbiomes using deep learning and artificial intelligence algorithms, and evaluate their potential applications in biotechnology and biomedicine by integrating molecular biology and synthetic biology approaches. To date, he has published 77 peer-reviewed papers and 8 prtents, including 17 articles as (co-) first or corresponding author in leading journals such as Nature, Cell, PNAS, and Microbiome, resulting in over 3,000 citations and h-index of 24 as per his Google Scholar profile. He has been awarded the Young Scientists Basic Fund of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and sought as PI/Co-PI on several other national or international projects.
