Jessica Subirats is a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC, Spain). She is an environmental microbiologist whose research focuses on the environmental dimension of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the context of circular-economy practices such as wastewater reuse and organic fertilization. Her work combines metagenomics, molecular tools, and field-scale studies to understand how antibiotic resistance genes move across soil–water–crop systems and pose potential One Health risks. She completed her PhD at the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA), receiving the Extraordinary PhD Award and the Spanish Society of Microbiology Best Thesis Award. She later worked at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada with Dr. Edward Topp before establishing her own research line at IDAEA-CSIC. Her current research aims to develop evidence-based monitoring frameworks and mitigation strategies to support European regulations on water reuse, biosolids, and sustainable agriculture.
