Biography

Dr. Jasmina Nikodinovic-Runic is a Full Research Professor at the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering (IMGGE), University of Belgrade, Serbia. She holds a PhD in Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia. Prior to her current position, she conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Montana (USA) and University College Dublin (Ireland).

She currently leads the Eco-Biotechnology and Drug Development Group, focusing on the discovery of novel bacterial enzymes and biocatalysts for sustainable applications. Her research bridges fundamental microbiology and industrial biotechnology, with a specific emphasis on the circular economy – converting waste streams into valuable microbial biopolymers and bioactive secondary metabolites.

Dr. Nikodinovic-Runic coordinates the IMGGE team for several major international initiatives, including the EU H2020 BioICEP and EcoPlastiC projects, developing cutting-edge solutions for plastic upcycling. She has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and holds multiple patents in the field of biotechnology.
