Biography

Ines Mandic-Mulec is Professor of Microbiology at the University of Ljubljana and a member of the European Academy of Microbiology. Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms, ecology and evolution of bacterial group behaviors, particularly in beneficial Bacillus subtilis. She studies microbial cooperation, competition, biofilm formation of B. subtilis and its interactions with enteropathogenic bacteria and their hosts. By integrating molecular genetics, experimental evolution, and ecological approaches, her work advances probiotic and biocontrol application aligned with One Health principles, recognizing the interconnected health of humans, animals, plants, and the environment. Her research bridges fundamental microbiology with sustainable strategies to manage microbial communities in complex ecosystems.
