Aleš Lapanje

Jozef Stefan Institute, Slovenia

Biography

Research work of Aleš Lapanje bridges microbiology, molecular biology, and colloid science to elucidate and especially engineer microbial community dynamics. Together with coworkers he has pioneered methodologies to investigate colloid–bacteria interactions, the electrostatic properties of microbial cells, and their controlled spatial organization and entrapment within functional matrices—laying the foundations of colloid biology. His work has generated impactful insights in environmental toxicology, bioremediation, host–microbe and plant–microbe interactions, and biomedical applications. He has coordinated numerous national, international, and industrial research projects. He has authored more than 400 scientific and professional publications and holds 12 patents in molecular and clinical microbiology. He is also the founder of IMMT d.o.o., a company focused on advanced restructuring of human microbiome and development of advanced DNA processing technologies.
